I've been fortunate to have fished with many different guides in the Keys and in the Everglades over the years, and Ray Culver is my favorite. He knows the waters as a native, and he is equally expert fishing bait, artificial lures, or the fly. He is out to please, and he's out to catch fish. He loves bringing home fish, but he's good when you want to release them all, too. He's a gentleman, and he's always appropriate around ladies and kids.
This year I fished three days with him in mid March, days when the other guides wouldn't go out because of the wind and cold. Ray took us deep into the back-country where we caught over 30 snook each day, including slot fish, and had a great time. I just keep coming back to fish with him!

I met Captain Ray Culver two (2) years ago when a friend of mine invited me on a two (2) day guided fishing excursion in the Everglades. The three (3) of us have fished together ever since! Captain Ray was on time and ready to start the day early. He consistently demonstrates he knows the effect wind, tides, temperatures and the phase of the moon have on the local estuaries and ever changing location of target species. Ray won’t take a client’s money, just to take’em out for a long boat ride; he’ll tell you up front whether or not he believes the fish will be biting on a particular tide, or a certain time of the year. Leaving out of Chokoloskee, Ray goes right to where the fish are and instinctively knows how to get’em out their hole and alongside his boat. His boat and his equipment are always in top notch condition. He is a person keenly aware of the sensitive balance between this pristine environment, known as the “thousand islands” and treats it with the foremost respect! I’ve made more than ten (10) trips with Ray Culver; I have taken clients, friends and family along to share this incredible outdoor experience and have always had a great time. We have always caught exceptional numbers of redfish, snook, trout and occasional tarpon. Caption Ray Culver is by far one of the most talented anglers I know. He’s good natured person with a great personality, an extremely cordial guide, entertaining and thoughtful. He’s someone you can easily spend a full day with and look forward, with anticipation, to seeing him the next day or on your next trip. Ray grew up in the Everglades and knows the area like a true native. He’s careful to insure the customers’ satisfaction on each trip and is a welcome respite from what you typically get looking for a local fishing guide. Captain Ray Culver is my personal choice as our family’s fishing guide for life in the fabulous Florida Everglades.
Thanks Chokoloskee Ray!

Captain Ray is a master fisherman. He thinks like a fish, kind of looks like a fish and definitely smells like a fish (ha!ha!). My buddy and I went fishing with Captain Ray this past weekend and it was like fishing in an aquarium. Not is only is Captain Ray a great fisherman but he is an even better person. I truly enjoyed our trip with Captain Ray and look forward to getting out there soon with my father. I have used many guides in the past years but can honestly say that Captain Ray is the best I've ever had the privelege to fish with.

Thanks to Captain Ray, a couple of 65+ Minnesota boys had a memorable fishing trip in the Everglades on 4/2/08. Everglade fishing, other than good rods and reels, does not correlate with Minnesota Walleye fishing. Fortunately, we had Capt. Ray, a guide with lifetime of Everglade experience combined with a professional attitude for success. Capt Ray’s professionalism was evident in the excellent equipment, his tactful manner in teaching Walleye fishermen new casting and catching techniques needed for Snook, and his constant involvement in the fishing process which required his continuous baiting and retying of our lines, plus an occasional target casting under the overhanging canopy of mangroves. We were very successful rookies in the solitude of back waters; we caught and lost many Snook. What a great sport fish, and what a great feeling to release these beautiful and robust fish. It was a memorial event for which we are indebted to Capt Ray for his knowledge of the Everglades and his commitment to us. We pay Capt Ray our highest compliment by recommending him to our friends and other fisherman who will listen to our memories.
